Terms of use
The rules for using BeenThere Expats, in plain words.
What BeenThere Expats is
BeenThere Expats offers free guides to expat paperwork, an assistant that answers from those guides and, for subscribers, a chat with a helper: an expat who has done the same procedure. We connect people; we don't do the paperwork for you.
Not professional advice
Guides, the assistant and helpers share general information and personal experience. None of it is legal, tax or immigration advice, and we can't guarantee any outcome at an office. For advice on your situation, speak to a qualified professional such as a gestor or lawyer.
Your account
You need to be 18 or over. Keep your login safe and your details accurate. One account per person.
Subscription
The Standard plan is billed monthly through Stripe until you cancel. Prices are shown before you pay. You can cancel at any time in Billing and keep access until the end of the month you've paid for. The free plan includes the guides and a few assistant questions a day.
If you live in the EU, you have 14 days to withdraw from a new subscription. If you use helper requests in that time, you agree that the service starts straight away, and a refund covers only what you haven't used.
Requests and helpers
Subscribers can open a set number of requests each month. Helpers choose which requests they accept and when they help: we don't assign work or set hours. When a helper marks a request resolved, you can confirm it or dispute it; without a reply it's confirmed after 72 hours. We decide disputes by reading the conversation.
Helpers are independent, not our employees. They verify their identity with Stripe, are paid monthly from a shared pool (a share of subscription revenue, split by resolved requests) and handle their own taxes. They also agree to the helper code of conduct.
Behaving well
Be respectful. No harassment, discrimination, spam or illegal content. Chat is text only: don't share identity documents, passwords or bank details in it. Don't use the platform to arrange paid services outside it. If something's wrong, use the report button.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Account settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we'll tell you why unless the law or someone's safety prevents it.
Our responsibility
We take care to keep the guides accurate and the service running, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of errors. As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for decisions made by authorities or for indirect losses. Nothing here limits your rights under consumer law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters to you, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it applies.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you live in the EU, you keep the protection of your own country's consumer law and can go to your local courts.
